Aurangabad is a historic city founded back around 1610. Aurangabad is surrounded by world heritage sites like Ajanta Caves and Ellora caves. The AURANGABAD INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (AIFF) is organized by the Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan, Mumbai’s Aurangabad Regional Centre. Pratishthan’s Aurangabad Centre is dedicatedly working in social, cultural, literary & educational fields in Marathwada region. Centre is organising the AIFF since 2014. AIFF has now become an important cultural event in Aurangabad city’s cultural calendar.

Aim of the Festival

The AIFF will present the best selection of contemporary Indian and international fiction-feature films as well as the significant films in history of Indian and world cinema. The aim of organising this festival is to present the films of great merit from India and abroad to the audiences of city of Aurangabad, and to create an awareness and understanding of cinematic experience through film screenings and dialogue.

Eligibility to participate in the AIFF

  • Aurangabad International Film Festival (AIFIF) will be held from 19/JAN/2018 to 21/JAN/2018 in the city of Aurangabad.
  • For Indian Competition section, feature length fiction films from India produced after 1st January 2017 are accepted. An international jury will award following awards for this competition –
    • Best Film winner – Trophy & certificate to the producer plus cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- for the producer and director of the film (shared equally)
    • Best Director – Trophy & certificate to the director
    • Best Screenplay – Trophy & certificate to the screenplay writer
    • Best Cinematographer – Trophy & certificate to the cinematographer
    • Best Editor – Trophy & certificate to the editor
    • Best Sound Editor – Trophy & certificate to the sound editor
    • Best Actor (Male) – Trophy & certificate to the male actor
    • Best Actor (Female) – Trophy & certificate to the female actor
  • For Marathi Premiere section, freshly completed feature length fiction films in Marathi language will have their premiere screening as an exclusive festival selection.
  • For World Cinema section, feature length fiction films made internationally, excluding Asian countries, produced after 1st January 2017 are accepted.
  • For Asian Best section, feature length fiction films from Asian countries produced after 1st January 2017 are accepted.
  • For other special sections, selection will be made by festival programming team under guidance of Festival Director. These special sections include the National Award Winners, Retrospective and other special sections.
  • Festival accepts feature length fiction films of minimum duration of 70 minutes.
  • Festival accepts only DCP as screening format plus a Blu-Ray as an optional screening format.
  • The films produced after January 1, 2017 are eligible, except for the special sections.
  • Remakes and dubbed language versions of a film are not eligible.
  • The Indian films with world premiere, international premiere, Asian premiere or Indian premiere status will be given preference.
  • All films must be screened in their original version, with English subtitles.

Selection procedure

AIFF’s programming team, headed by the festival director, is responsible for selecting and inviting films to take part in the AIFF.

  • The online film entry form shall be filled in with all the requisite details by applicant who is either producer of the film or the person authorized by producer of the film.
  • The deadline for entries as well as sending the films is 15th December 2017.
  • Applicant can submit online preview link of the film in form. This online link shall have the download option.
  • If applicant chooses to submit DVD preview copy the film, it must reach the festival office by the submission deadline i.e. 18th December 2017. Please mention submission reference number on DVD.

When sending the film entry to festival office by courier / post, the envelope / package must be marked clearly with the following:

For SELECTION PURPOSE of Aurangabad International Festival of Indian Films
The courier invoice should mention NO COMMERCIAL VALUE

Please mention DVD’s value for customs –

Rs. 50 (for Indian entries)
US$ 1 (for Intl. entries)

The cost of the courier charges for the preview material is to be borne by the applicant.

The applicant shall inform the festival office by e-mail ( of the title of the film, the date and means of shipment, and the AWB number.

The working copies of films which would be ready for screening before the start of the festival can also be considered for selection.

For Marathi films – Rs. 2,000/-
For International films – US$ 60/-

Entry form submissions will only be considered complete and ready for selection process on confirmation of entry fee payment by the applicant.

The entry fee is waived off for early bird submissions for films submitted till 21st November 2017. The entry fee will be applicable from 22nd November 2017 onwards till submission closes on 15th December 2017.

Instructions for selected films

  • The applicant must submit detailed documentation immediately, including synopsis of the film, biography and complete filmography of the director and of the leading actors, a selection of high resolution stills from the film, the poster design in a high resolution format, a recent photograph of the director, and a full list of artistic and technical credits. This information should be sent to festival office by email to
  • The applicant must submit a DCP of the film with English subtitles in festival office by 10th January 2018.
  • Films selected for Aurangabad IFF cannot be withdrawn from the Festival programme after its announcement.
  • The applicant shall provide 2 to 5 AV promos / trailers of each film, of maximum 2 minutes of duration through downloadable online link for promotion of the film on TV and other media.
  • The official Festival logo laurel must be included in all promotional and publicity material of the film and displayed prominently. The Festival provides suitable logos.

Festival programme

  • The festival programme of the films selected is at the discretion of the festival director and his programming team. Their decision on festival programme is irrevocable.
  • Each film may be screened a maximum of 3 times in the Festival in Aurangabad. Some of these festival films may be screened in other cities of Marathwada region under satellite festival screening programme within 2 months following the main festival screening in Aurangabad city. The applicant / producer of such film will be intimated before any such screening.
  • Films will be screened in DCP projection or any other digital format agreed upon by the festival programming team and the producer / applicant of the film.

Film screening material and selection screeners

  • The screening material provided to the Festival i.e. DCPs / hard disks or Blu-Ray discs or tapes will be returned by the Festival per their instructions by the applicant / producer of the film.
  • Festival bears one way shipping / courier charges for this screening material, while receiving the DCP / hard disk / tape before the start of the festival.
  • The applicant / producer shall bear the shipping / courier charges for this screening material, while receiving the DCP / hard disk / tape after all the screenings in all the festival cities are over.
  • The applicant / producer agrees to make available replacement of screening material DCP / hard disk / tape immediately, if it has difficulty in playing / screening.
  • The DVD screeners sent for selection will only be returned to the applicant / producer upon precise request made within 1 month of completion of festival. The applicant / producer will bear the expenses of return of these DVD.


Besides the film screenings under various competitive and non-competitive section, the festival also organizes many other activities during the course of the festival. These academic and informative events are designed in view of aim of the festival to create aesthetic and creative awareness among festival attendees towards cinema. These activities include –

Obligations of applicants / producers of the films

  • Participation in the festival implies adherence to the regulations as here set out.
  • It is the responsibility of producers / applicants / distributors or other organizations submitting films to ensure that they are legitimately entitled to enter the film in Festival.
  • For promotion of the films on TV, the applicant should provide links to download trailer / promo files of the film.
  • For the films selected, the official festival logo MUST be included in all promotional and publicity material of the film in a prominent place. Requests for suitable festival logo can be sent by email to
  • The festival director has the right to settle all cases unforeseen in these regulations of participation, as well as to permit exceptions from the regulations in special, well-founded cases.

Obligations of the Festival

  • If there is any damage to or loss of the screening material of the film sent for screening in the festival, the festival is responsible only for the cost involved in restoration or repair of the damaged DCP / hard disk / tape or making a new DCP / hard disk / tape of damaged portion of the film according to the current laboratory rates for ordering a standard screening copy.
  • Responsibility of festival for damage to or loss of a DCP / hard disk / tape is applicable ONLY while it is in Festival’s custody.
  • Any claims for damage or loss of print, lodged by the lender of the copy must be communicated to the Festival at the very latest, within one month of return of the print to the lender.

The festival director reserves the right to settle all cases not covered by the guidelines and to grant exceptions in special cases.
